The Ainu had  a reverence for wolves and considered them a type of deity. They believed in a goddess, Horkew Kamuy (Howling God), associated with wolves. 

Ainu mythology also included a story of their origins, where the Ainu people were said to have been born from a union between a wolf like creature and a goddess.  Rare and a real gem.
