Rare Maya Poison Bottle

Discoid pottery flask form, in cream with red in lower portion. Identical mold made relief's on both sides. Seated on the left is God k facing God L on the right, separated by a glyph column. God K having a elegant snout, is one of the smoking gods. From a tube above his forehead emerge two smoke scrolls. He is a major deity, personifying royal power and protector power and the protector of royal lineages. God L is one of two principle gods of the underworld (the other is god N); he is an old god with a sunken, toothless mouth and a wide-brimmed hat. On the narrow sides are columns with glyphs.
