Reverend James Chalmers (1841-1901) was a heroic Scottish missionary of the London Missionary Society known as the "Livingstone of New Guinea" for his courageous exploration and evangelism in Papua New Guinea, establishing peaceful contact, charting new areas like the Fly River area, and ultimately being martyred by cannibals on Goaribari Island in 1901 while seeking to spread the Gospel.
