After the Venus’s stay at the Galapagos Islands the ship left on the 15/7/38 for the Marquesas Islands and reached Fatu Hiva on 1/8/38, then to Hiva Oa and Fatu Haku. The local chief warmly welcomed the French and would four years later sign a document establishing French Sovereignty over the islands. The next three weeks were spent in a thorough survey os the islands.
